Villa da Filicaja Chianti Superiore
Grower: Count Antonio Nardi Dei-da Filicaja, a family owned estate since 1452.
Village: Montaione, 36 miles southwest of Florence. Vineyard is at 354 meters elevation over the surrounding Tuscan landscape.
Soil: Arenaria and calcari alluvial.
Grape Varieties: Sangiovese (90%) Canaiolo (5) Merlot (5%)
Age of vines: 41 years on average.
Vinification: Harvested entirely by experienced pickers who avoid immature grapes, leaves or broken skins. The grapes we use are harvested by hand into crates with a specific harvest-transfer-destemming criteria, which enables the destemming and the pumping of the must into fermentation tanks within a maximum of 15 minutes after picking the grapes from the vine. All grapes are checked and sorted bunch by bunch in order to have only perfect grapes for our wine.
A ripe, savory style, featuring plum, spice, earth and saline notes matched to a rich texture.
